Fish Oil – an Alternative for Antidepressants?

Research studies imply that a diet rich in fish and seafood may have a positive effect on mental health and even mitigate the symptoms of depression.

Nutrition experts recommend eating fish at least twice a week.

Fish oil contains unsaturated omega-3 fatty acids which affect mood and overall brain function. According to scientific research, these acids make up to a quarter of the brain’s dry weight, so their imbalance may lead to a higher susceptibility to depression, mental fatigue and other ailments that
can affect the brain.

Although global fish consumption per capita hit a record high last year, according to data from the United Nations, fish usually play a rather marginal role in the diets of people living in most Western countries.
