5 Best Herbs for Men

Which herbs are best suited for men’s troubles and to help prevent their occurrence? These five herbs are suitable for all men over the age of 35, when testosterone levels start dropping and the first issues with sex or the prostate may begin to emerge.

GINGKO (Gingko biloba)
Gingko is an herb renowned for its wide variety of applications, not only in men. As the body ages, gingko can improve memory, concentration and cognitive functioning as a whole, alongside erectile dysfunction. It all comes from gingko’s capacity to improve blood circulation in the body’s vessels. Another bonus is that the improved blood circulation leads to increased sexual pleasure during intercourse.

LOTUS (Nelumbo nucifera)
Lotus is a plant all-too-often missing from our diet, especially in those on a macrobiotic diet. Apart from other things, it contains asparagine, which is a compound that is recommended in the treatment of impotence. As well as this, it helps on other fronts, too. It can, for example, remove excess liquids from the lungs and respiratory system, which is particularly helpful during colds. These days, fresh lotus can be purchased in health-food stores or Asian markets. Fresh lotus can be used just like regular vegetables in cooking. If you aren’t able to get your hands on it, dried lotus will do the job just as well.

You can prepare baked lotus crisps by peeling the root and slicing it into very thin slices, covering them in oil and adding a pinch of salt and pepper on top. Put them in a tin covered in baking paper, place in an oven preheated to 392°F / 200°C, and cook until they’re golden.

TRIBULUS (Tribulus terrestris)
Tribulus is a plant used widely all around the world. Native Americans have employed its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and diuretic effects, while athletes use it to increase testosterone levels to improve muscle mass formation for better results. We must also remember its usefulness in the treatment of infertility and impotence. In men, the critical age is 35, when blood testosterone levels begin to dwindle, leading to faster fat accumulation, decreased sex drive and changes in behavior, for example sulkiness, depression or irritability. A cure that uses Tribulus can have a positive effect and increase testosterone levels by up to 30 percent. It replenishes vitality and spirit, increases testosterone and thus sexual drive, decreases cholesterol levels and alleviates inner tension.

Remedial tea can be prepared by pouring 17 fluid ounces / 0.5 liter over one tablespoon of dried Tribulus, followed by 30 minutes of cooking. Then decant it and sip at least 20 minutes before food, ideally in three doses.

BARRENWORT (Epimedium sagittatum)
This plant’s second name is “natural Viagra”, a plant which has not only an aphrodisiac effect, but also improves immunity. Apart from these sexual bonuses, aging men will appreciate it for other effects as well, for example its capacity to reduce joint pain, improve brain blood circulation and prevent premature ejaculation. And finally, the best thing: it increases sexual pleasure in both men and women.

That makes preparing a cupful in the evening worth it, right? It is easy to prepare. Take 17 fluid ounces / 0.5 liter of water and put a tablespoon of the dried herb into it and cook it for 15 minutes. Decant and sip throughout the day. We also recommend adding some lemon juice to improve the absorption of all the herb’s beneficial compounds.

MAGNOLIA-VINE (Schisandra chinensis)
It is an herb that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for its beneficial effects. It is primarily useful when treating erectile dysfunction caused by mental troubles and stress. As well as that, it increases energy levels in physical activity, physical exhaustion or depression. Just like the other listed herbs it has an aphrodisiac effect and improves sexual endurance.
