CBD for beauty

The CBD component of the cannabis plant helps us sleep better, gets rid of persistent pains and improves our mood. But it can have positive effects on our skin as well, and even better, we can make concoctions and tinctures at home, save money and let our creativity roam!

When we take CBD, it is received by the endocannabinoid receptors in our body – not only in the brain, but also in our vital organs, glands and tissues, and even in the mast cells of our skin. By applying topicals onto the skin we increase the receptiveness of the cannabinoids of the CB group, which in turn increase the production of these substances essential for our body. We benefit from this – it helps regulate the immune system, has an anti-inflammatory effect and since CBD oil is a great natural hydrating agent, our skin becomes glowing and healthy. There are many products on the market with hemp or CBD, though we can easily make these products at home.

What to look out for?

When making beauty products with cannabis, you do not need to decarboxylate your flowers – this is the easiest type of recipe there is. You can use flowers or full spectrum concentrates, and you will never need as much as for pain-relief products. Have some vitamin E ready as it prolongs the shelf life of your DIY products, and look for an oil that works best with your skin.

Emu oil is very popular to use since it penetrates the layers of skin deeper than some other oils, whereas coconut oil has a tendency to clog your skin, especially on the face, so try to use that only on really hardened skin. This pore clogging is referred to as comedogenic, and oils have a scale from 0 (low pore clogging) to 5 (high pore clogging). Oils on the lower side of the scale are argan, hemp, sunflower, emu oils and shea butter, while the higher side is occupied by cocoa butter and coconut, linseed and wheat germ oils.

Beauty body butter

Butter immediately makes us think about soft textures and hydration. This butter will make your skin exactly that – soft, smooth and hydrated, and with the CBD oil full of vitamins and antioxidants you will feel like a newborn baby. Apply all over the body in decent amounts anytime you feel like it. Keep at room temperature but not close to a heater as that would melt the oils.

Ingredients:

1-3 g CBD oil
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup olive oil
½ cup shea butter
½ cup mango oil (or cocoa butter if preferred)
10-30 essential oil drops (based on your preference)

You will need:

A big pot and a small pot
Blender
Mason jar

  1. Fill the bigger pot with water and place the smaller pot inside it. In the smaller pot, melt and mix all the ingredients apart from the CBD oil and the essential oil drops.
  2. Add the CBD oil and let cool a little, then add the essential oils.
  3. Place in the fridge and let it harden, not too much though – this should take approximately an hour.
  4. Scoop the mixture into the blender and blend for about 10 minutes, until it starts to get fluffy, then scoop into your mason jar.
  5. Place the jar in the fridge for about 15 minutes to solidify your beauty butter.
