The Wonders of Matcha Tea

Matcha, meaning powder tea in Japanese, is a powder made from shaded green tea leaves. It has been used for more than 800 years by Japanese Zen Buddhist monks.

It is traditionally consumed in the Japanese tea ceremony called Chadou, meaning the way of the tea.

Until quite recently, matcha tea certainly wasn’t among the most commonly served teas in teahouses around the world. Its relatively high price and difficult production made it a a less accessible choice for most tea enthusiasts.

Fortunately, however, with new production techniques arising, the tea is becoming more affordable and popular. Throughout history, matcha tea has mostly been kept secret.

The tea itself is shrouded in mystery. It was consumed mostly by Buddhist monks during ceremonies and by Samurai and Japanese nobility.
