Spurflower Leaf Syrup

Just as we can make a popular cough syrup with plantain, we can make one with the silver purflower too (or any other plant species of the Plectranthus genus).

It’s an effective remedy for a runny nose, common cold or . In addition to being a natural emedy, it tastes great. Drink it mixed with cold water or add it to tea or a semolina mash.

It has a sweet taste, , so it can be used on bread instead of honey, or in white yogurt instead of marmalade.

To prepare the syrup, collect roughly 35 spurflower leaves, 1 kg / 2.2 lbs of sugar,
2 lemons and water.

First, make a decoction with the leaves. Then, put them in a pot along with thin slices of lemon and pour hot water over them. To make the taste more interesting, add a few slices of orange. Cover the pot with a lid. Let the ingredients infuse for one to two days.

After two days have passed, pour the mixture through a piece of cloth into a new pot and bring it to a boil. Now comes the time for the gradual adding of sugar in a 1-1 ratio. Keep adding sugar while stirring occasionally until the syrup gets dense. After it has done so, pour it into sterilized jars, seal them tightly and place them upside down. Allow the syrup to cool.
